For my main relief piece I decided to use wire. While I was brainstorming on what to do before I came up with clay, paper and cardboard ideas but I didn't want to further my project in any of them so then I started to look for a new medium to use. I decided to use wire because it was different and I have never worked with it before so it was a challenge that I was willing to accept. I also decided that I wanted to do a wire elephant with a sort of sunset background. I used thick wire for the outline of the elephant and thin wire for the details. I think that the elephant itself turned out really well and so did the background. Next time I would probably shape the elephant better and attach it to a different type of backboard. I wanted to do this project because it was a challenge and it was cool to try and figure out how to bend and use the wire. My best friend inspired me to do this project because her new bedroom is themed this way and she loves elephants. Overall it was a great learning experience and it was fun to accomplish it!
My cardboard relief was a little tricky to make at first but then I redid it and the finished project turned out pretty well. My paper relief project was very fun to make and I enjoyed working with paper. My clay tile was a little hard to work with and I had some complications and it is in progress now of being painted but so far everything is working out well. Soo Sunny Park was born in Seoul, Korea and moved to the United States when she was eleven. She went to many sculpting and drawing colleges and was successful in all. She is mostly known for her sculpting and installation pieces but has drawings as well. With some of her pieces she works with light and it adds a cool personal touch to her artwork. My favorite piece of hers is the Capturing Resonance. For this piece of work she used chain link fence, plexiglass and natural light. The way she works with light and the way it reflects off the glass is truly amazing. It is very mesmerizing to see this in pictures and one day I would love to see it in person. Soosunnypark.com My styrogomi project wasn't as successful as I hoped it would be because it was difficult to figure out what to do and then apply it to the styrofoam cup. It was challenging to cut the styrofoam the way I wanted to because of the fragile piece of material. |
